I’m having an extremely hard time deciding on whether to take a new position. I need to leave my current firm due to no future prospects and also other stuff I’d rather not get into. A new firm made me an offer that’s a little more than what I make now, seems like good people, but it’s in a city I hate (I’d be working remotely) and a practice area I’m not crazy about. I’ve heard mixed reviews about whether it’s a good place to work. I am struggling deeply in making a decision. Need some help

It’s seems like you have two options (1) you can stay at your current place and keep looking or two (2) start at the new place and keep looking.

I think the big thing for me would be to assess how badly you need to leave your current place. If it is pretty unsustainable then maybe option two is preferable. However, if you are ok being there some more as you continue looking, then maybe option 1 is the way to go.

How will this new position help you to accomplish your long term career goals? Do you have any other prospects for another position on the horizon?

How severe is the "other stuff"? In other words, is it an annoyance you can hold your nose and put up with for another 12 months, if needed, or is it more like a physical attack that left you fearing for your life and you never want to step into the office for even one more day?

I think you need to keep applying

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
