There's nothing wrong with asking that question, though it should fit into the context of the conversation. It might come off awkwardly if you say you noticed something on LinkedIn that you found puzzling or disturbing. To be really honest, I'd be a little curious and skeptical about the openings on LinkedIn, my first thought would be they're trying to look like they're doing a lot of hiring, and that can be interpreted as a troubling sign.
I don't think there is anything wrong with asking that. You want to know why there are so many openings and I think that is a fair question.
Definitely ask. If it’s “fast growth,” they’ll brag. If it’s “fast turnover,” they’ll dodge. Either way, their reaction tells you everything you need to know.
