I’d start off by being straight to the point. Act as if you have the role and ask HR or to the person your going to reporting to…what is the expectation of you coming in? Do they need to turn the ship around from a culture or performance perspective? What resources/budget do you have at your disposal? Essentially what your looking for is to have an up front conversation. If they are dodging the facts and questions that you bring up from your research then run for the hills. But you want to consider how new the leadership team is as well. If they are all new then that’s a good sign.
There was another round of layoffs a couple of weeks ago that included people with the 2-3yr experience range. There has been an obvious shift in hiring to abandon technical US based employees for those in India. My experience with the people Securonix hires in India was that they would scoop up as many as possible and try to weed them out while working on projects.
My advise for someone in sales is to undercommit to absolutely everything and don't bother discussing anything that is an upcoming feature, The "upcoming" part may be months/years away.
