I'm looking to make the jump from a 10-lawyer firm to a mid-sized or larger firm in a major market, with just 1 year of experience as an associate. Is it too soon to lateral? Looking for more stability in workload and consistency in pay. Currently paid only when a partner gives me work... not ideal.
Thanks for the advice.

Definitely not too soon to lateral, especially since you’re looking for something that your current firm likely cannot accommodate.

It’s not too soon! I lateraled after my first year from a small (5 lawyer) firm to a regional mid size firm. I cited career growth and more complex work as motivating factors.

Not too soon, I did the same thing after 6 months, everyone (old firm and new firm) understood

I lateraled recently after a year at my first firm. Went from a boutique with 40 attorneys to a midsized firm with 200. Best decision I could have made.

Hi all need some advice. I am currently working as a consultant at PwC post mba . Current base is 16 , 3jb , 10-30% variable. Based on this I got a hike from a startup I was interviewing with. Base 24 , esops -5 (paper money right now since early stage). Is this a good offer? Considering PwC will give market correction to a base of 20 ?

So I’ve been talking to this guy I met on a dating app. And we’ve been talking over the phone and FaceTiming for about a month now. We live in different states but would want to meet up. Is it reasonable to ask if he’s talking to other women? Or is that pretty standard with these dating apps to be talking to multiple people until you both decide to be exclusive. Just wondering if it makes sense to ask that now or I’m probably just overthinking the whole thing.

I recently (August 2021) took a job in-house in Houston after leaving a firm. My partner lives in LA but freelances so the decision was to take a good in-house job and then he would move to Houston and work remote. However, he’s started to get great directing and editing gigs in LA and now it seems impractical for him to move to Houston or even split time. I love my company but their HQ is in houston and they won’t allow remote work. Continued in comments…

How do you tow the fine line between sticking up for yourself and not talking back to a partner? For context, our firm has seemingly started making a paper trail for layoffs and I disagree with some of the emails that I have received. I want to respond in a way that covers my own ass. However, I don’t want to piss anyone off, especially if I have read the situation incorrectly.
