I'm really struggling to get several students to turn their homework in on time. I'm finding many to just still be very distracted. Has anyone had success implementing any kind of reward or merit system? TIA

We have block scheduling so I favor independent practice over homework. Other teachers at my school give way too much and I know the kids would never do my work

It's a school-wide consequence for me, there is a "homework slip" that lists the assignment, when it was due, and asks for a parent signature along with the completed homework.

like

I’d like to know more about how this works. This seems like a great idea! What are the consequences after several parent signatures? Some teachers in my school give a lot of homework, some don’t give any homework because of cheating and/or because the student simply won’t do it.

I don’t give homework unless it’s something they didn’t finish because they didn’t use their time wisely. I did this when I taught high school as well. I tell them if they give me 60 minutes of math I give them their time at home…generally works well and they still show mastery and proficiency on standards and skills

like

I’m giving very very little hw. I think with the freshmen & sophomores the only hw I’ve given was to get the syllabus signed. The juniors not much else.

How do you have time to get through all of the standards?

Please take in mind I am an MS SPED Teacher.....I have stopped letting work leave the room. Most students lose it, toss it, or even have their parents take it. I made folders for everything and we allow for in-class time and if they do not finish it is the first thing we do when we come back.

For those who rigorously budget to achieve FIRE, can y’all give me some tips that work for you? Any other tips and tricks that work for you? Ok. I know that social media has made a lot of AAVE slang popular. I get that. What I find cringe is the obsession with using it 24/7 and the assumption that adding "lit" or "that's cap" or "slay" to things will make them do numbers. Someone in a meeting this morning suggested we use bffr and said it means "best friend for real." Like at least research the term before you try to use it.

Making an offer. The sellers said they had 30+ people walk through the open house today, and are asking for best and final. They’ll make a decision on Monday. The list price is 775k. We were originally thinking of offering 700 to start since comps are around 735k. However, this is nicer than the comps renovation-wise. What would you all suggest we offer? We’d rather lose the house than overpay, so this concerns us.

First time home buyer, advice needed for pending purchase

I found a house that has the features and parameters I need.
It's one of the smaller houses in the neighborhood and has not recently remodeled for sale.
It is therefore a around 25% cheaper asking price than some other recent listings in same area.
I got pre approved for thrall asking price with 10% down
Since it does need some bit or remodeling that I would like to do before moving in, what's the best way to go about doing that?

I teach a hybrid of face to face and virtual instruction and we have 1 hour and 10 minutes for whole group instruction. These are fifth graders. How would you use this time to maximize learning? What strategies/methods would you use for engagement and mastery?

I definitely feel like student engagement is low in the virtual realm. Any suggestions would be great.

I actually felt appreciated.

What would u do in this "hypothetical" scenario.
1. Student gets 95 percentile on standardized tests in 1st grade.
2. 2nd gr teacher, capable and flexible but a little old school.
3. Parent, from foreign country, wants us to teach 2 years ahead of where student is at in math and reading in case they have to return to other country.
4. District's old standard for acceleration is at the 97th+ percentile and other students are much more"advanced".
5. Parent wants detailed steps for teacher's plan
