I have 25+ years of experience, and my resume fits neatly on 2 pages. The only reason somebody would need longer than that is if they were published in journals or had writing credits.
Tell them to pare it down to 2 pages.
I would not refer someone with an 8 page resume

As someone more experienced than that, limit it to 2 pages and save all the details for the interview.
Pretty sure a CV that long is only normal in academia. I have a lot less experience but I have a "master" version of my resume for my own use where I have everything I've done since college. I just copy and paste the relevant experiences it onto a new resume doc when applying to jobs so I can submit a one page resume instead of the 3 I currently have if that makes sense.

A CV is your life's work, a resume is meant to be a summary highlights real. I would ask them for something more concise.
Who cares? Read she summary if it’s too long for your attention span. The detail is there is you have questions regarding a specific role. Seriously, there are no resume police.
Varies by industry and country. It’s pretty common to have long resumes like this in public sector.
Alright, as someone with more than 25 years of experience, I can say my CV is long - but my resume is tight to the job requirements. My CV is a comprehensive document that has a complete list of almost everything I've done. My resume is cherry-picked to be relevant. I've recently taken to reframing both my CV and resume to align with the interviewers with whom I'll be talking. The CV is a comprehensive view, the resume shows that I know what is particularly relevant to the job.
And yes, this process has put me recently in negotiations for my next role, which is a settle-down step into the C-suite.
This is great! This person has been unemployed for a year and has worked at the same company for 25 years. However, I think the roles he is applying for are junior compared to his experience
