Any single F from hyd?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

That's how it is where I am too. I'm in SLC and wages are low (minimum wage is still 7.25 and I think that has something to do with it), but rents and house prices are so high. I think its the paradox of moving to a medium sized city. You get hit with kind of the worst of both worlds
You’re not alone, and moving can be such a shock when expectations don’t match reality. It’s wild how rent hasn’t adjusted with pay. One option is remote work with companies in higher-paying states. Have you looked into fully remote roles?
My company also has the same base salary for my role everywhere in the US — I can kind of see why, but it made me much more likely to move to a LCOL city
You find a higher paying job or a second job or have roommates
Its true for EVS employees too. I heard about a guy in PA making 35 an hour. Its 15 an hour here. I have a friend who made way more living up North than she did when she moved down south. The cost of living is lower here, but its not that low. Rent is on the rise and there are very few houses for sale here.
