I’m thinking about having a baby on my own this year. Every marriage (2) man changed his mind after vows. I’m over waiting on them! I’m 38 and work at a private law firm. Anyone here been here and done that? Joys, pains, regrets, triumphs?!

I had a baby on my own at 37. I'm a lawyer at a small law firm. It's doable but expensive, and it helps if you have an employer that's at least somewhat understanding. It also helps if you have family or good friends nearby. There are a lot of good books on the topic. I recommend reading a few to clarify whether this is the way you want to go. I would also see a fertility specialist to discuss options- egg freezing vs. trying now or doing both (you can do IVF and only fertilize some of the eggs and freeze the others).

A1- I’m 36, and thinking about having a baby on my own. What was your biggest surprise? Challenge?

I do make a lot of effort not to fixate on the idea that having a partner would necessarily be better. It's easy when you are alone and things are not going well to assume that things would be better if you had a partner but that's not necessarily so. I have many married mom friends, and they have their own challenges. Sometimes it's actually easier to be alone. Other times, it would be easier if I had a partner. There isn't really a perfect set up.

sigh* last week Saturday my s/o & I broke up after our 3 year relationship. & it really been affecting me negatively — not eating, autopilot mode, self isolation & diving deep into work. Today I decided to go outside, where I picked up some food to go and went to an outdoor movie by myself; where I had the realization I just really enjoy being by myself. Idk, maybe I’m just better off single after so many failed relationships/am I being dramatic? but anyone else has given up on love?

What other solutions/therapies can I use with my kid? Please, any advice is welcome!

I had a break up and it was me who messed up. I blame myself all day and constantly have dreams of her. It’s been few months. I try to smile a lot or stay busy but randomly I cry out loud and burst into tears, I think I’m depressed. I also live alone don’t have a lot of friends and I’m 36. Can you please recommend a good therapist (I know you have to try multiple to find the right one)? And what else can I do to bring my self esteem up. Thank you

So I have been seeing a guy for 4 months. We have a pay disparity.. he earns less than I do (by quite a bit). He has mentioned a few times that he’s worried I’ll get bored of him when I know he can’t afford the same things I can. I think we are beginning to move past this, but now he’s starting to mention things like ‘I am really broke this month’, and last weekend he told me his mum has lost her job and he’ll have to probably pay her rent. I have a lot of sympathy for his situation … tbc

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??
