Walk the length of third Ave downtown and if you still like it welcome to the slop
As a young person back when we were all in offices I used to take the E line lol (stop on 3rd or near it’s been a while). Got hassled about twice a week. It’s par for the course. In SF when I lived there someone tried to stab me on the bus with needles he was holding like wolverine. If OP isn’t from the west coast it’s gonna be a rude awakening lol
Seattle is amazing when the sun shines and the Puget sound and mountains are gorgeous. Lots to do here especially if you like the outdoors. The mayor is a wack job and is hell bent on Taxing us to death so be prepared for that insanity if some very high cost of living. People here don’t think, they just keep voting in the same policies that are destroying our once beautiful State. I wish you well in your decision.
New governor actually seems fairly reasonable on balancing taxes vs cuts.
Visit us in the winter before you decide to move!
Good point but visiting for a few days doesn’t give you the full experience of weeks/months of gray and rain
Can you live without a lot of sunshine? When it’s sunny you can’t beat all that Seattle has to offer (3rd Ave-esq streets can be found in most major cities) but the lack of sun does get to a lot of people. What are your personal priorities? In my Seattle experience, the neighborhood is more important than the city.
Thank you
Check out neighborhoods like West Seattle (alki), Capitol Hill, Madison Valley, Belltown, Green Lake, Fremont, International District, Ballard, etc as well as the east side cities (Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, etc)
Then check out the price of those houses in those neighborhoods find out what you can afford because those neighborhoods ownership is for millionaires and the rents are steady rising pricing many out towards less appealing cities and neighborhoods. Make sure research thorough
7 months of rain from October to April. Seems like every day is at least overcast if not light to moderate precipitation. People adjust but some can't.
Summer is gorgeous! And the trees/hills interspersed by fingers of lakes is quite appealing. You don't get a big urban scene sense.
I have lived in Seattle 20 + years. The place has changed and not for the better. With Microsoft, Amazon, Getty Images, Google, the Allen Center for Neuroscience etc TECH is HUGE. Everything is preposterously overpriced. Traffic is ungodly and much of downtown has been tagged with graffiti. I still like this place because of the accessibility and beauty of the water and the mountains. I have to hope that better times are ahead for the Emerald City. Also, get a huge dog, or bring one with you. Not for protection but because it generally makes everything more encouraging and tolerable, IMHO.
