Are we talking guns and dildos? Or like, politics or political propoganda? I would write for either of the first two. Wouldn’t write for political causes even if I agreed with them.
Lol 😂 but not everyone agrees with guns and dildos
Yeah i'd be curious to hear what products/beliefs we're talking about too. Taking on a client like that could set a precedent for future work, and if it clashes with your values, it might not be worth the paycheck. I’d weigh if it’s just a one-off or if it could actually impact your long-term brand.
Agree 100%
As a junior copywriter, nobody will care.
There’s no scenario where that would happen.
I'd say that honestly, if it’s making you hesitate this much, your gut is probably trying to tell you something.
100% .. and that would probably not produce great work
If you're in a position to choose your own clients, then just turn down any you're not comfortable with. But if you're in a more ordinary situation, it will be assumed by anyone in a professional capacity that you were assigned to the account. It's not like it's going to carry you around forever. In fact, you need never put it in your book if it's something you find really distasteful. On the other hand, it can work to your advantage, as a way of showing that you can do good work as a hired gun. The real ones would understand.
Interesting take. So you take any type of work just to show you can do it?
This is a really great question… I don’t take on anything that clashes my values. I don’t care if it means losing a job. I like to feel at peace and in harmony with the things I put out into the world
