Especially as you move up the ladder, people absolutely manage perception over output in agencies.
And having worked both sides, accountability is much fuzzier on agency over client side.
Ambiguity is threatening on all sides.
But you can have a CD take the blame, and then scold teams internally. At least to the records straight.
I’ve been on the agency side my entire career. Currently, I’m an IPG refugee at Omnicom, unsure what the future holds and if the layoffs are truly over. So many brands’ scopes are cut in my group. For years, I’ve dreamt of safer pastures on the client side, understanding that the creativity is compromised, but does the stability and calm compensate for it? After my 20+ year career is it not the right move? Will my creative heart suffer that badly?
Well I’m sure some agencies are messy too. I have to think Sanofi or Novartis are somewhat organized. No?
