Interviewing at McKinsey & Company and recruiter informed me I’d be based out of “North America” and can work in any city where there’s a McK office. I’ve seen several posts here about people being assigned to a home office, even if working remotely most of the time. Curious if this more general assignment is new?

Implementation I assume? Yes you will normally be asked to be <50 miles from an office. You can push this and live further (I know colleagues who are doing this, sometimes >2 hours away) but be prepared to expense your own travel for “local” projects and miss out on a lot of the great in person office events

United Platinum here - got an offer to pay ~$6k for upgrade to 1K. Thoughts on if it’s worth it? Already belong to Club (United Infinite) and have CLEAR credit through Amex Platinum. Still have 40 plus points from hitting Platinum last year. Unlikely to travel for business until late 2Q at earliest but have 2-3 transcontinental flights planned for summer and 1 transatlantic for fall. Maybe another 1-2 shorter trips this year as well. I imagine I’d use my extra plus points on all these.
