BCG isn’t a big deal to everyone. It seems like it on this app, but there are plenty of people who aren’t overly impressed with BCG. I’d definitely focus on your skills and what you bring to the table over trying to show them the status of your firm.
If it’s a start up then you should lean on the fact that you bring with you the BCG network.
So much of a startups success is based on relationships; VCs, More established companies, angels, media companies, etc.
On all the above fronts BCGs network is a plus that they may want to leverage; plus that narrative will check the box of burnishing the BCG brand in their mind and showing a subset of the value you bring.
1) While funding is always welcome, business deals are also valuable. For many startups, getting in the door to even BEGIN the sales process is difficult.
E.g., I had a classmate who had a really good idea, but had no beachhead clients to use as proof points. I made an intro to a former BCGer that led to them eventually closing a deal that gave them a leg to stand on with subsequent clients and investors.
2) If OP can’t sell a startup on BCGs network given its size and reach, the start-up life may not be for them. Turning “I don’t know x” into “Interesting, tell me more” is pretty much half the job 😂
2b) Prestige is the wrong thing to focus on; leads and reach are what matters here.
Most entrepreneurs think all consulting is a joke.

Talk to your experience instead of relying on the brand name. Sounds like it doesn’t mean sh*t to them so prove your worth. You’re a consultant, you always sell - this is no different. Hope you get the job!
People are clowning OP for this post lol but it’s a fair question. It’s a hard job to get, OP wants his/her credit for that
@P1 gets it.
What are you looking to get from them? Is your BCG experience particularly relevant to the startup?

Why is the branding so important to you? If your experience and expertise is so exceptional, that should speak for itself
They aren't hiring BCG, they are hiring you - if you rely on the prestige of your prior firm to get the job, all you're telling them is "many of my colleagues do amazing work."
Following up - I have conducted many interviews for my various employers. Having a brand name on the resume (whether employer or school) is definitely a huge plus to help get the interview.
Once you are in the process though, I'd rather hire the best candidate for what they bring to the table - a strategic thinker from a low tier school is better than a mediocre candidate from Harvard
Startups don’t buy into large consulting companies BS, who simply exist to help large dysfunctional organizations basically navigate huge corporate structures and old people in power. they don’t need someone to come make beautiful slides that go nowhere — they’re probably looking for someone who can get sh*t done.

In a very roundabout way, all you’re getting at is how do I make sure I set the right comp expectation. Well, the easiest answer is to give them a number to base off so they’re anchored. The fact you work for a “known” brand means nothing, the fact that you get paid XYZ$ matters a lot.

Not at you. At OP.

Find a firm that values the brand. Most start-ups care more about what you can do rather than how "prestigious" your firm is.
“I don’t mean to brag, but I’m a snob”
You don’t “make them understand” if they aren’t convinced by your experience. That’s a signal to you that your value lies elsewhere. You find an exit “worthy” of your BCG experience by finding someone who DOES value it, not by waving your BCG around for everyone to see how big it is
How do I use BCG to get a better offer? By getting other offers and using that for leverage, not using "BCG" recognition 😅
Mention your client base and the scope of work... “Boston consulting provides strategic consulting to global Fortune 500 companies... My efforts have primarily been focused on... Its given me the opportunity to develop my skillset in these areas.... I would like to leverage that within your company by....
Good luck if it’s meant to be it will💕💕💕
I feel you OP. I have been here. Anyone within the firm that is ex-MBB? Getting someone they trust to paint a picture and influence is the best idea. Else you will have to dazzle them in the process and be head and shoulders above others. This will get you a stronger negotiating position.
