I’ve been working in customer service for over a decade. The past 3 years have burnt me out and I am having a hard time finding something I can pivot to that will pay enough. I am current working in a tax technology group even got my CPA. I just finished 1st year on the job found out I hate the tax and accounting and enjoy it a lot more when I code in VBA, writing SQL script etc… I enjoy coding and want to get into software dev and escape the busy season hell. Anyone has successfully transition to such role? How did you do it? Quitting decent paying job to study full time for a job that is not guaranteed is daunting.

I’m looking to pivot back into a technical writing role, or at least a role with tech writing as a core responsibility. I’ve been working toward a solution architect role but I’m not allowed to own any documentation; I have to farm it all out to BAs. I actually wouldn’t even mind being a BA — which is literally what I was hired as — but my “on paper” boss said my salary is too high to be a BA(?!).
