Analyst straight out of uni is the fastest
You may also see post-MBA associates who came from an ivy league background or anything like that.
Analyst straight out of uni - but to make that happen you need to have Interned there
If you are already an Analyst in Investment Banking and want to stay in IB / financial services / and rank up - then I would recommend staying on that track.
I did the MBA into IB route, but there are a lot of steps that have to go right for it to work out the way you want, and most of us were career switchers, the MBA helps with that.
Otherwise, assuming your already in the IB track and performing well at your job, show loyalty and stay the course and you'll make it up to Associate/VP much quicker. The 2+ year opportunity cost of the MBA is not worth it.
Also PSA - I did not stay in IB because it was not conducive to family life for me / my wife, but stay in the game while you're young/single and whoever you'll with will come into it with a better understanding.
