Take it. Trying to negotiate at the junior level is tricky and can easily be perceived as entitled, depending on what you ask for of course. $55k is a good offer for a junior
CD1 that’s terrible advice. You should always care about the money. Money is why people work jobs.
@CW4..So because you allowed yourself to be low balled you must wish the same on others? Shouldn't it be a better situation for those that come after you? 32k is ridiculous and encouraging that is not it, Chief.
You don’t have enough leverage at this point. If you’re excited about the job take it
Is this entry level? That’s pretty standard at 1-2 yr experience
You shouldn’t even care about money when you’re a junior. Say thank you and get to work.
I started as a junior just under three years ago at $32k in a large city. Take that for whatever it’s worth...
$55 is solid for entry level. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. When I started out 9 years ago people were taking jobs for $35-40k. Don't complain about $55k. Prove you're worth more, then you can ask for more.
I’m still making under $50 and I’m “mid level”, go for it
$55k for junior is pretty standard
@Pub1, how exactly does this "back in my day" logic work? SF was not freakishly expensive to live in 9 years ago.
Always negotiate, it never hurts. Would you rather just take what you’re given and always wonder what if I just asked for more. Come in with the facts on why you are requesting more all they can do is say they can’t. Most of the time they will increase the original offer.
Hopefully it’s not for a role working under CD1.
What city
to answer your question, they may not be able to offer more just in the sense that they allocate a certain amount in the budget for juniors and that’s it. $55 is fine for a true junior role. after a year or two you can get more through a raise or going somewhere else. worry about your book and where you’ll learn and be mentored for now
That’s really good for junior
I do actually have experience but it’s in-house
If in-house you can probably ask for a little more. 55-60 is standard entry level pay.
It’s what nearly everyone gets in NYC- depending on the agency you might also get OT. If OT is in the table just take it, that’s another 20k by end of the year
A recruiter friend says to always ask for a bit more than you really want. Maybe go back and tell them you are looking for $60k to make a move, but that you’re flexible so as to not come off as disagreable. This is standard for nyc tho!
