Does your firm find out why you failed a clearance ? Asking bc I got fired from my first job out of college a couple years ago and didn’t report it on it company background check. I’m afraid if I fail my public trust, my current firm will find out and fire me for not reporting it on my prior employers.

Tips for bankruptcy associates who eventually want to move in-house? 3rd year associate in bankruptcy/restructuring group doing mainly bk lit but a few deals too. Need to stay in BL for at least another year for the money, but eventually want to move in-house. The path to in-house seems more straightforward for general commercial lit or more standard transactional practices. I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’ve been in a near constant depressive/anxious state for family reasons for the last year and half, and am soon having my first kid. I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?

Investment advice for a junior associate (with minimal research or effort). Young with minimal expenses, so open to any and all suggestions.

Do people proactively begin finding work when they know they may be low on work soon? Or do they just wait until they actually don’t have enough work to fill their days? Have a larger project that is winding down and my main case is slowing down a bit so I anticipate potentially needing to find more work soon, and I was unsure if that was something I needed to worry about.

To those at V25 firms, how do you view your London office in terms of the quality of work we get and overall importance to the firm? Like is there a perception of us being a step down or ancillary to the big leagues of NYC or not? There’s generally a perception here that L&W and K&E are the only US firms where London can even begin to compete with stateside in terms of generating l work organically but would be interesting to know what you all think? Be brutally honest.

I am not finding a lot of stuff written for lawyers specifically , but there is a lot directed at “managers” in business generally that I imagine could be applicable.

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Big law literally saved my life. I was working for the government and being sued by creditors and in a deep, dark place. I wasn't even able to afford my Ube transfer application on my own. I've been at my firm for 3 years now and my life has completely changed. I was so close to declaring bankruptcy it's not even funny. I understand why people rag on it but some of us would be in a really bad place if we weren't here
