Any parents here? How did you originally explain the Covid pandemic to your children?

I have a 7 year old son, he was 5 years old when the covid-19 pandemic started. We started explaining that there was a flu-like illness but that if we got it we could get complicated and end up in the hospital so we should take care of ourselves and avoid getting sick as much as possible, even though he was a child he understood the situation as much as he could.

Thankfully my daughter was old enough (12) at the time to understand without us having to simplify or understate what we were dealing with. Of course, there was a rough adjustment period as she realized that we couldn't do all the things we usually do, but it sank in eventually

It becomes hard to explain when you are a researcher and you have to go out every day with all the hygiene, cleaning, disinfection and isolation protocol. Even though I was telling her that I was healthy and that my protection was enough, I noticed that she was getting more stressed than she should be (she is 10 years old). Fortunately the darkest days are over and my family is healthy.

I figured honesty was the best policy for explaining this to my boy. He was 8 at the time, and we told him about this very dangerous virus that could put our lives at risk if we weren't careful.

It didn't take much for my 9 year old to understand. She understands how viruses spread, so I explained why the introduction of a new virus can be more serious and why the spread needs to be slowed. It wasn't explaining the pandemic that was the issue so much as helping her cope with the guidelines. Two years felt like a life time to a kid.

No one really talks about what to do once you get Covid-19. Have companies made an effort to proactively educate employees, or create a process to help employees report their illness with next steps?

So… 3.5 year relationship came crashing in Jan due to covid depression, work burn out, lockdown etc. We have stayed in contact and recently he has come around to apologizing and considering getting back together. However he also revealed he started seeing someone casually 4 weeks ago and technically is cheating on her by meeting me for coffee and to discuss this. I’m upset that he’s dating others but shouldn’t be right? I mean, I did the same. Still hurts though. And I told him to sort that out

Curious what anyone thinks about cologne? Is it a turn on? I am not really into it.. but I just got a whiff of this dude at the gym and the cologne did something to me 🥰 It was really subtle. I tend to just like the way a man smells (not body odor but just natural scent) and don’t usually like it covered up, but wow this guy tonight 🥵 I might might buy some but i figured it would be gay to ask him “what are you wearing” because that prob isn’t something the bros at the gym do.

I didn't apply for a job that would have set me up for the future in the government. I wouldn't have to worry about money or future jobs. My boss had just given me a small pay rise and talked up the future and so I felt good. I now severely regret not applying for the job and cannot stop thinking about it to the point of insomnia and depression. I even contacted the employer but too late. It's a small town and rarely anything comes up. I hate myself and feel like I failed my family. :(

Can I just vent on how annoyed I am with the increase in “priority boarding” of people that are able bodied? I am happy to let them on first. But I think they should get off last. So many times they are limping or in a wheelchair boarding. And then when we land that are the first to jump up and scurry off. Just not ethical.

My scores are still valid for atleast 1 year. Aiming for M7 or Oxbridge in Europe. Would using this GRE score be realistic for the school given I've just 1 YOE and my quant was lower.
