A little humor sprinkled in a resume. Yay? Nay?
Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

You can’t outsmart a recession. Go where you think your overall career will gain most.

Please stop, you cannot predict the future. If you were so concerned you should have asked about the that in your interview. Btw how do I get freelance at huge?
Damn SAD 1 chill.
Totally valid having concern on how to move through an impending recession. I would think about it in terms of job security until things stabilize.
Go where you will add the most value and where the account feels the healthiest. Also work with those that understand your value and can vouch for you.
Healthy account can stave off layoffs. Working on a project where you are not a redundancy And can add value adds to your security. Stay as billable as possible.
Hope this is helpful. Good luck.
thank you i appreciate it
It never hurts to have interviews and take calls. You meet new folks, make connections, and can reflect on what you want. Starting that process doesn’t mean you have to finish it.
At Huge, I’d at least wait until there’s clarity on their restructure and your place in it before making a decision.
Depends on a whole slew of things. Clients, agency, leadership, track record etc.
I’ve been chatting with some recruiters and I’ve been through this before at my age. You want to make sure the agency you are going to isn’t tied to one or two big clients, because if they leave, that’s when the issues start. There are also so-called recession proof clients: healthcare, financial services, education, discount retail - these are things that either survive or even thrive in tough times. Check the make up of clients before going somewhere new.
As for a new role at Huge - good luck. They aren’t doing promotions or raises right now so even if you’re offered one they will tell you it’s not a promotion and just give you more work. Also the whole pod structure doesn’t exactly diversify the “pods”. The goal is fewer bigger better, which means if one pod relies on one client for a high percentage of their revenue, they are at risk and I assume that would mean so is everyone in that pod? Plus our whole strategy for products is to try and double our margins which LOL good luck in this market.
The weird part is that I get the sense that Mat doesn’t care and will get some sort of sick satisfaction from people leaving.
