It’s not career suicide to choose more time with your family. You will have to find a modified or otherwise different path.
I have grand parent here all the time to enable this. 3 of the 4 are retired and the kids have become their full time focus...super grateful for that

Going through same right now. Basically feel that I have to choose between career suicide (not traveling) or sacrificing time with my wife and kids...
Very tough and very few are able to make it work. Seems like you know the paths to take... good luck!
We are doing it now. It’s tough, but not impossible. My kids are 13 and 15 years old, and it gets easier as they get older. Far more responsibility falls on the one who does not travel. Hire out as much as you can.
