Yes go and ask. I had a situation once where on the phone I was a little thrown and just said ok. That night I wrote the recruiter an email and basically said that it was not enough, I had to gather my thoughts and was not able to appropriately respond and that this is what it would require for me to join their firm. I did not get my exact number but I got within 5k of it which was substantially more than the verbal offer. Don’t sell yourself short. They will work with you if they really want you.
Agreed with this. I have never heard of an offer being rescinded due to salary negotiations (even in a case when a verbal acceptance already occurred).
Do it tactfully (as D1 suggested), make sure you have valid reasoning for why you deserve to be paid more, and shoot your shot.
I think it depends. If you get a counter offer, it happens that you might ask for more. Part of good negotiation. However, if you don’t feel like it’s enough, ask for more. It’s not a formal commitment until two things happen: you sign the paper and money changes hands. Just be aware that upon asking for more, your offer may be completely rescinded. For 10-15%, it may be worth the risk. If you got the offer once, chances are that you can get it again.
Be ready for rescind
