If not equity stocks, can we trade in commodity exchange? Or maybe Forex exchange? Or Cryptos? Just want to know the boundaries of trading & investment and work accordingly! No. Well, it depends. How much would you make otherwise?
The biggest determining factor of happiness in life is your choice of a mate. If you make more than $200k, you’ll be fine. But Depending on your profile and your socialability, dating in your 30s may or may not be difficult, and may or may not take a long time. Don’t go chasing that last dollar and give up a good personal home life.
Here’s one thing I learned from an older mentor. Think about how much time we spent recruiting and looking for jobs in school and afterwards. Now how much time do we spend intentionally dating? Why is the former often so much higher than the latter, when within a certain income range, the latter is so much more important to long term joy?
Hmm yeah I feel like in my last relationship, I wasn’t fulfilled by my career which contributed to our relationship weakening
Once you make more than $300k, there isn’t much difference making $300k to $600k. You can afford all you want. However, having the right partner in life makes a HUGE difference to your happiness and achieving your goals. If you plan to have a family, having the right partner is much more important.
Just curious, what are you trying to afford, M1?
I doubt that personal growth should be ignored this long. In the end your world is made up from your head. If all in there is money thats not fulfilling. Also, having a young Woman that is with you for your Money Just sucks. Whats it worth?
VP - if the question is $600k and single, the money temporarily will fulfill you, but you will be base-level unhappy. I know too many guys like this and been there myself. You’re really young still, you should also be thinking about taking risks. Join a start-up, invest on the side, do a searchfund. And try to find a partner that appreciates your hustle. Good luck! 🙏
Happy to share limited knowledge and any connections in search world! Chin up - it sounds like you’re ready for a new chapter.
Make as money as you can, as quickly as you can, until you have enough to make your money work for you. Thats the game. I’d work 100 hours a week for 600k, are you being serious right now?
You know, I’ve always wondered how to break into these ridiculously compensated roles… I’m in finance in my mid 20s making $100,000, breaking through to 150 by age 30 seems like a challenge. How and where do I break into a job sniffing 600k? Serious question.
B school. The data is out there my friend, google away.
Why600k? Sounds arbitrary
Depends on values and knowledge of self. Will the new job put you in the ground with your Bugatti at 59? If so, do you care? Do you have outside interests that you value? What lifestyle do you seek?
There’s no blanket right answer - it’s what is right for you. I’d suggest doing some form of values exercise or motivation finder. You may be surprised, one way or the other, what you truly value
Your time and your health are your two most valuable resources, but it also depends if you're energized by the work itself. Sounds like you don't have kids, so maybe it is worth it if it is work you love. If this is simply a money grab, you might want to give it a second thought.
Always put money first
😥 who hurt you Apollo
A relationship and hard work don’t have to be orthogonal. I work very demanding hours for a very high paycheck and my partner is very supportive. Love and family are more important than money, but that’s not the point of your question I guess. Finding a partner for life has to do with being a decent human being first, which is quite orthogonal to the skills required to making it in the financial world. I do think that hustling a few years to reach the financial status you feel like you need is a good idea even at 28-30. It’s true, you’re not surfing and drinking cocktails on the beach while you’re young, but you can do that even at 60 nowadays!! Important thing is not to get stuck in the rat race (which I appreciate it’s hard in IBD as there is a level of showing off). Save most of it and retire early. Even if I earn much more, I try to live on $70000 a year. Save and invest the rest
