Interviewer asked what my current salary / bonus is and I told them.

I got the offer and it’s exactly the same base/bonus as my current role. (Though they’ll also give me so stock options in the private company).

Can you share what is reasonable % increase to get for salary / bonus when switching jobs? I know the team really likes me.

I will be joining IBM next week in Bangalore ( physical onboarding ) and my hometown is in West bengal , My father is having health problems , mother won't be able to handle everything and no such person we can rely on . Also I am getting married in January . Hence If i stay in Bangalore there will be no one to take responsibility for my marriage prep also . I have a phone screen interview with AWS for the position of Systems Engineer with the Linux team early next week. I’ve been a Sys Admin for the last 4 years, and I’m not very well-versed with coding. The phone screen does have whiteboard coding, any tips on what I could do to prepare for this? I’m not sure if I can let the interviewer know I’m not too strong with coding. I do want to take up the challenge, and also find out if the role would require extensive coding though. Any tips?

Is there any advice for networking into projects when you don’t know many people at the firm yet? I always to help on BD work when I’m on the bench, but it never turns into any billable work. Every time I have talked to a partner/senior manager I was told I don’t have the skill set they’re looking for, but I don’t know how to build up from there. Feeing very lost but I want to improve my approach.

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.

I can only imagine how Deloitte cyber must feel when they walk into client site trying to advise on security issues lol
