We are international creatives who work for companies that compete internationally on talent and finance. Your value is your value, doesn’t matter where. I wouldn’t cut a dime.

Worked for me, and dozens of others I know. Sorry you took a cut.
Also - this is about Martin. not some random regional agency. I promise you geico pays the same in VA as any other insurance client in a major market.
120k in RVA you can get a nice house with a pool, you get opportunities to do good work and keep your weekends for yourself. That said, you should stand for your value. If they are making you an offer they already cut a lot of people to favor your talent, the worst you can get is a no.
How big of a cut are you talking about? 200k to 130k, no way. 200k to 170k, maybe.
You’re balling on $120K in RVA
Was in exploratory conversations for a lateral move. When I heard the salary, my jaw literally dropped. Why would I take the same role for 30-35% less? When there are killer agencies in 2nd tier cities that are willing to pay what a market like NYC or LA pays me or very, very close to it)? I don’t mean that hypothetically. I’ve explored a lot of different cities and when an agency really wants you, they’ll make you a competitive offer. You can find great agencies doing great work that will pay you that $$$. Ultimately, that’s tens of thousands of dollars you’re missing out on to put into retirement, save for a downpayment, etc. Cost of living doesn’t fully absorb that difference.
Same in Richmond, same everywhere. While yes, NYC, SF and LA are arguably the most expensive the rising cost of living paired with inflation is pervasive. It also seems like it is quite hard to get equitable raises at Martin.

The Martin Agency pays their top talent nyc salaries. They’re trying to low ball you. I’d try to keep equal to your current salary at the very least
Sadly this is false. I was told I was top talent and still low balled (pre pandemic) I had to fight for what I got, a significant pay cut. Leadership has also changed since then. A year later and I think I would have fared much better.
I have several friends who work there. They are good people with nice office perks and give their employees fun gifts. But there’s a lot of frustration at Martin right now about how the work is falling well short of award-caliber on just about every brand but Geico. If you want to make good work, it wouldn’t be my first stop—-especially with a salary cut.
Not that this this on the table, but worth asking. Is WK PDX worth the pay cut? Just curious?

They pay competitive. Because it’s possible to pay fair and live in a city with a normal CoL.
Richmond is very cost-friendly. You could have a nice place fit for a family in the Fan for $120k
Whatever happened with this situation? Did you end up taking the role OP?
