Very. MITRE is a really great company
On top of being prestigious, employees are generally well paid and very happy there. They generally look for candidates with masters +. They are just an all around really good company with a very smart workforce.
Rising Star
The MITRE ATT&CK framework is one of the most commonly referenced in cybersecurity, but that said, I don’t have any personal experience with what it’s like working for the actual organization itself. Assume it’s solid given the pervasiveness of their approach.
Yea lot of former senior ranking military officers etc. lots of elite government connections
Extremely prestigious. Lots of incredibly intelligent people there.
They are very influential in the cyber space, as others mentioned. But that doesn’t mean they pay well. I usually recommend them as a stepping stone into FAANG cyber roles.
I’m a current 7 year MITRE employee, who started working after graduating college in 1984. MITRE, founded in 1959, is somewhat of an anomaly, which is why many people have not heard of it. First, it looks like a consulting company, but that’s not exactly right, as it is a not-for-profit corporation. MITRE is paid to think real hard about solutions for difficult problems. Our major strength is probably our systems engineering approach to most of the things we’re asked to pursue.
We’ll study a problem, make recommendations, and sometimes that’s the end of it. Other times, we’ll be asked to implement and/or manage a solution. We run a number of Federally Funded Research & Development Centers, or FFRDCs.
Our “customers”, or sponsors, as we call them, are typically government agencies. The bulk of our funding comes from Congress. We have expertise is a very wide variety of subjects, be it related to healthcare, nuclear energy, commercial transportation, cybersecurity, defense, terrorism, justice, and many other topics. More than half of the employees have masters degrees, and around 20% hold doctorate-level degrees. MITRE is primarily in the continental US, but there are employees in Australia, Indonesia, and Europe. Some of the employees have been there for 30+ years, but a good minority were hired within the past 5 years.
Sounds like a great company to work for! I just I was technical enough for their roles 🥲.
Chief
They trade off their connections rather than competence.
just don’t give up, maybe next time
How have you never heard of MITRE?! 🤯
We hire all levels, from interns to PhDs.
