Yes for Gamma pay. business environment is extremely harder for tech business so I don’t think we are hiring actively. In fact, we are transitioning people out at an insane rate
gamma is same pay as classic and default equity partner path. They’re largely respected within the firm. They seem to be chiller and nerdier so I think the WLB could be better, but when they need to work they’re expected to do so as their consulting counterparts. Additionally their staffing is system wide and even international, they may travel more than classic as a result
There is higher transition rates because white collar jobs across the economy are suffering. I think in addition gamma and other Special business units were combined. In reality, this meant that gamma kinda of absorbed them. All the leaders of the new org BCG X are now Gamma people so you can tell who were the rain makers of the SBUs.
Some of the transition rates might be affected by ahem* less than traditionally productive SBUs absorbed by gamma
QB is unfortunately treated as a second class citizen (even though generalist consultants may believe otherwise).
Pay is mostly the same in the same bands, but career progression is considerably slower, so one could argue that the pay is lower too.
In QB, Work can be more chilled, but all of my colleagues work as hard as generalists. And since we still have been quite busy with little beach time, we're arguably working longer than generalists.
Partners and Sr. Partners - with few exceptions - mostly see us as service providers, so it's also harder to establish strong relationships outside of studies, which also affects the career progression.
Personally, I've been here for a long time thinking it was going to get better, but it didn't. I have a family member who was considering McKinsey and QB and I recommended he goes generalist and gets affiliated to DnA.
Fellow QBer here. This is correct.
At the BA/ASC levels, client-facing QB colleagues have a similar experience. Beyond that, though, it's not the same game at all.
Have a look at the job boards for QB. I confirmed 3 AI engagements in the last 4 weeks, it's busy
Yeah OP, if you went with a DnA integrative role there are options around that. QB also has plenty of non-technical people, product managers, analysts etc. It's a mix on where we are and are not hiring right now, but it's definitely not black or white
Yea for QB.
Most McK people I know like/respect QB people a lot for their talent! Also I heard they are trying to give QB folks a clearer path to partner/partner equivalent. Hours prob similar to integrative consultants.
Gamma hiring is starting again it seems. I just got assigned to do Gamma R1 interviews for the first time in 2023 (August interview date).
That said, earlier in the year they scheduled and cancelled several interview days, so no guarantees.
Gamma pays same as generalists. Economy is terrible tho so don’t think theyre hiring much if any
Yeah, we competed against Quantum Black on some engagements. I think we won a small (<1M engagement). Im trying to bounce to you guys. Can I buy one of you guys a coffee?
