Move dilemma:
Currently @ Arthur D. Little Limited Dubai as SE Manager w/ base comp of 285k $ + 10-15% bonus. Vert limited fit w/ people & projects in the region (MEI) & not motivated by seniors. Not happy w/ the job but good WLB. Very likely to promote to Pr which would include a 20-30% jump in total comp but shift to more variable
Move to MBB as PL. Projects & people are supposed to be great and he could see himself in the long run. Comp is 170k $ + 60% bonus. Will take 1.5y to move to Pr

I hire a lot of PMs and a pattern I’ve noticed is many PMP holders are more theory based than practical. Recently, several have struggled on their projects more than PMs who have naturally progressed into the role from an Analyst or even transitioned from other parts of tech.
No
No one cares about a PMP. It’s too easy to acquire, and everyone and their grandmother has one.
For context, I was able to get mine in a week.
Well, our firm stopped paying to maintain your PMP cert. Personally, I think it at least shows you know what you are doing. But if that is your *only* cert you could appear to be too old school, I’m afraid
What other certs should people have with PMP so it’s not too old school? Scrum?
Everyone and their mother has one of these days so I really don’t think it’s as prestigious as it used to be. I’ve also seen a lot of folks with no experience in project management get the PMP. Junior employees with less than two years of professional work experience. It’s crazy.
I think loosely vetting at best.
I’m a PM in my role and have Scrum certs but not PMP. I studied for PMP initially and would probably still go back to it to finish at some point but generally I don’t think its actually practical. Half the “right answers” to the practice exams don’t work in practice because you’re dealing with human beings
Following this. I don’t have one but thinking of getting one in 18 months.
Same just to see what I do differently and course correct
It’s respected in government (if US based, Federal, state, local) and heavy industry such as transportation or energy.
Thank you all!!
