I recommend they start with fixing the public schools maths and science education programs, since u dont wanna rely on foreign talent in that area. Its not marketing firms that are sponsoring h1b, is it? Its those who need talent with numbers.

Two things can be true at the same time. Immigration and trade are both net positives. But H1B and offshoring have both been abused to hell and back. Something needs to be done about them. Anything Trump proposes will always turn into a grift but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem. Right now there is massive support for this amongst tech workers and massive pushback for tech corporations, that alone speaks volumes.
My background is IBM, HP, and Verizon consulting management ( Director / AVP level. I found US military were excellent IT folks and great project managers- I hired them a lot. I did NOT want heavy Asian accents in front of my US clients. Fine for written proposals but rarely oral skills ( except those educated in the UK!)
I can’t stand overseas dealing with agents in offshore call centers although my teams built and designed them for many IT firms.
Hire US Military- they are excellent, disciplined, and worth the extra price.

We go through these phases and the pendulum swings back and forth: there was literally a piece of legislation passed around the turn of the 20th century called the Chinese Exclusion Act after Chinese laborers basically built our railroad network. Similar laws against Irish and Italian immigrants were passed in their day too. America has never been terribly welcoming to the “wrong” immigrants despite what it says on the Statue of Liberty. 🗽
Bottom line: they dont wanna do anything to actually fix the labor market, not at all, bc that would require thinking and real work. They just wanna continue throwing these populist policies in ur face but i thought people were smarter than this. Alas
TL;DR?
And the time has changed, I understand. Now there are white people who have CS skills and no jobs so I do agree that H1B can and should be revisited, maybe to prioritize top ranking schools or top paying jobs. But the current rhetoric is not it.. dont give into the agenda the current admin spews. Just dont. The way I see it is that America being the leader of excellence n innovation globally has always attracted top talent in the world, and nothing is more true. The competition is what keeps US alive and thriving, and globalism is its roots, so how can u retreat back to "no foreigners in our schools n offices" just bc the labor market is shifting entirely, independent of H1B. Young people being unemployed and how many of those people were even gunning for Big4 or big tech in the first place? Most of them r getting rejected from companies that had no interest in hiring h1bs ANYWAY. I dont know how to convince u but u have to take my word for it. 99% of companies have no interest in sponsoring.. so this h1b shmit is not gonna fix anything. Just pure politics powerplay. And ok maybe it will fix some of these large companies policies but its still a small bubble in the context of the larger economy. These fancy jobs are <2% of the labor market, people. Young people will continue to be unemployed
This is spot on
Huh.
