Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I know I don’t negotiate very hard when so many things are already in my favor with a job. It’s easier to have those dealbreaker numbers when I have reservations about a place.

Very fair..dealbreakers are definitely different depending on context
I wouldn't worry too much about losing the offer, as companies do expect some negotiation (unless they explicitly say otherwise). When offers get rescinded it's generally because the candidate came off as unserious, usually by asking for an unrealistic salary or some benefits that were just not on the table. As long as your negotiation comes off as being serious and in good faith, you probably aren't putting the offer at risk.

That’s a great point. Thank you!! Going to remember this for the future
