What is a good salary for a director in NY?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I'd be pretty worried at this point. Depending on how things had been proceeding before the negotiations, perhaps two weeks isn't an inordinately long time to wait for an answer. Yet it seems as if you're being ghosted. Perhaps it's a negotiation tactic on their part, to make you give up your ask. If you want the job it seems like you should get in touch and follow your instinct to see if the original offer still stands.
Thanks! How do you recommend I broach the topic to see if the original offer stands?
Hang tight. If $140k is the top, you will probably get that. The recruiter said they were getting approvals, then wait. I would probably contact the recruiter to follow up and ask for next steps. Don't say anything about the salary.
I would email.
My rationale was I’d lose out on annual bonus at my current employer, but was happy to for the right role. Recruiter seemed understanding because I’m ineligible for bonus at prospective company this fiscal year. On hindsight, I should have floated a sign-on bonus but I already countered at this point
I'd check in with the recruiter reaffirming your interest in the role and your fit for it. I wouldn't mention the salary directly but others may have a different take so I'll read along and see if I can learn anything.
Keep us posted! hopefully works out!
I would send an email. Don't mention the salary. I would have taken the $140K. That was the halfway point between their offer and your desired salary.
Thanks! That was what I was aiming for, the recruiter didn’t offer $140K though as they had to check. Would it be better to email or call? Just want to see if original offer stands at this point
It would work out, if it’s a big org, approvals and internal discussions could take a while.
Just try to wait and see if they respond to you. Then maybe they are making decisions right now. Hang in there!
I would def check in with the recruiter as to next steps m, but DO NOT bring up the $$. Let them think that you’re still firm on your counter. Good luck.
So, what happened? Did you hear from them??!
