Tbh I just don’t go. There was more pressure in consulting to “grab drinks” and I understand it’s part of the culture, but I usually suggested dinner instead which ended up being alright. My reasoning was that bars aren’t even a great place to socialize given that it’s loud, crowded and food is sub par.
Arrive late, leave early. Don’t linger too long with any one group. These days, mocktails are widely available, so there’s no pressure to drink. Just socialize, mingle, smile—and when you’re done, go hit the gym or treat yourself to a good meal at a halal restaurant. Channel James Brown song and say it proudly: I’m a Muslim and I don’t drink. It’s a mindset that’s served me well for the past 30 years.
If you explain that you don't drink due to religious beliefs, they will usually respect it. Would they force Jews to eat non kosher or pork?
Volunteer to organise the outing instead
This. We gotta stop taking the back seat and drive the outcomes we want.
I’m riding on the gen Z alcohol avoidance trend
It’s actually common. Hoping it trickles down to college students as well so I don’t have to worry about my future kids
I avoid it altogether. Make up an excuse, nothing good comes out of bunch of drunk ppl.
Yeah, it's sad, but that's the case in my company too. I just go and don't let anyone tell me what to do with my time. Over time, they figure it out and stop. It's weird that your co-workers don't have the bare minimum respect not to ask you to do something that's against your religious beliefs. Have you ever confronted them about it? Not when they're drunk, of course.
I go but drink Diet Coke. It’s my way of signally g I want to join but don’t want to get drunk. My colleagues have never had a problem with it.
Ask to go somewhere they have activities not just drinks that’s lame… top golf is fun
Second top golf or kings bowling
Show up for a little bit and leave. State that u don’t drink and do bar scene due to religion.
Yeah literally just don’t make a big deal that you don’t drink. I don’t even mention it’s for religious reasons, just say in training rn people usually respect that and order a sprite or something
As a Muslim, I personally would not go. It’s Allah that grants opportunities and risq, you shouldn’t be in bar settings or anywhere near alcohol.
I usually avoid bars but if I feel like going bc I want to network with a particular person, I get mocktails. At lakehouse mocktails are free 😂 everyone’s like how are your drinks free? And I’m like maam this is a virgin drink

You should not go to happy hours. It’s haram to be in such settings even if you’re not drinking. I myself am trying to get better
Have a glass of ginger ale or apple juice. If anyone asks say you don't drink. Enjoy the evening and ignore the drunks. In a professional setting that seems too much.

Or just don’t go
I don’t go to bars specifically. But when I do go to happy hours, I don’t stay so late to when everyone is drunk. Although in general, more people are pretty conscious of not getting drunk at work
