However, if you’re deciding which post-MBA job to choose based on MD / Partner compensation, you’re looking at it all wrong — either way, you’ll make plenty (assuming you make it to that level).
Which job would you prefer to do? It’s a lot of hours / years to consider...
And I second this! Choose the work you want to do, not the job that might pay more one day.
Lots of threads in here on partner comp. MBB partner comp goes from about $600-750k to start (depending on firm and year) all the way to $5m+, with majority probably around $1.5.
Low end for us somewhat higher than McK, but takes 1-2 years to get there. Closer to 800-900, which is prob a 2nd/3rd year McK partner

BB will get paid more at every level and it becomes even more exaggerated the higher up you go. Obviously, top performing consulting partners will outearn button performing BB MDs, but on average, the former holds true

Thanks everyone. Super helpful. I was more interested (if available) at the comp progressions within each level eg manager director. I don’t plan on staying until MD at either MBB or BB (assuming I get in). But would like to know how stark the pay difference it is before I exit
