You’ll have time for hobbies. There is more to life than work
In house roles vary widely. Yes, some roles can be more routine, like contract review/management, but others aren’t. I went in house after 10 years in litigation. My role manages and directs a large company’s litigation and regulatory work, along with handing labor and employment. Included in that is advice and counsel to the business to prevent problems before they occur. It’s incredibly interesting and different but I always enjoyed the big picture aspect of litigation more than the drafting/sitting in depos side of things. I also have time to do the things outside of work that matter the most to me - there’s more to life than work. And let’s be real, most lawyers aren’t saving the world or anything.
It can be tough to go in house as a litigator - there aren’t a lot of litigation roles and most of them are for more senior attorneys. A lot of my litigation colleagues enjoy product counsel roles - which tend to be pretty broad in scope.
You only fear it because you don’t remember what it’s like. I had a very very slow month and the first week I was bored and the second week I remembered the joys of sleeping and cooking and sports and seeing friends more than 1x a month and watching movies and not being bothered after 5 pm. Glorious
