3k seems pretty reasonable for NYC. 3k in Jersey city would not get you a decent 1 bed apartment, unless if you live a bit away from path station and in a fairly old building
I’m seeing places in Journal Sq and Paulus Hook for 3k with pools, gyms, and dog parks and are under 40 mins to midtown
Dont do it. Jersey City is so boring and feels very lonely living over there.
I think if you’re a homebody, prioritizing quality of apartment over doing things in the city, jersey city is a good option. If that’s not you, you’ll regret this. Most who move to Jersey saying “I can easily go to the city whenever I want” end up going way less. And you’re way less likely to end up doing spontaneous things, as everything requires significantly more planning. All food for thought!
This 💯! Take it from me, who loved to NJ and then came back out of boredom !

They are the same price in JC
What is your current neighborhood and the size of your apartment?
Keep it
It depends what part of Manhattan you work in and want to hang out in. Upper west side from Jersey City is a pain to get to. I would consider Brooklyn, Queens, or the Bronx before Jersey City for the subway if you aren’t trying to get to midtown or downtown wtc area. You could upgrade to a nice 1 bedroom in another borough in that 3k price range.
Work in Midtown, usually hangout in WV
If you are single, I would STRONGLY recommend not moving to Jersey City. You will face a lot of criticism and "long distance relationship" commentary.
