I’ve been told I’m too technical for strategy roles but too strategic for accounting ones. What does that even mean? I’ve automated processes, built out forecasting models, supported business decisions, but I still can’t seem to fit neatly into a single bucket. It’s like I’m stuck in career no man’s land. Anyone else fall between categories like this? How do you avoid getting pigeonholed while still leaning into the full range of your skill set?

It’s just how you frame it. Find a mentor that can help you “interview” and say the right answers

Hi HR Professionals! I am revising our current employment application form. Per SHRM, I was just curious if any HR Professionals completely removed the following fields: social security number, recommend salary, graduation dates, military discharge info, race, maiden name like (Ms. Mrs. Ms), & criminal history questions. I was just curious what other Employers/HR Professional have done. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.
