I’ve been unemployed for about 8 months due to a restructure at my last company. During the hiring process at a new company, HR actually mentioned my need for a job when I tried to negotiate 10% above their initial offer! It put a bad taste in my mouth, but I don’t want to hold that experience against the hiring manager and the team I’d be working with. Has anyone ever had a gap in their resume held against them during salary negotiations?

I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?
