Job transition question: I recently accepted an offer for a new role with Merrill Lynch, the following day I was fired from my previous employer. I haven’t filled out the updated work history background check info yet. The reason for termination was due to performance expectations not being met. Should I reach out to my new employer and let them know that I’ve been terminated? Should I just put the termination update on the background check form and leave it at that? Wondering what I should do.

Okay guys, the financial industry is different if you’re a securities licensed employee. @workplace Planning Consultant are you licensed? If you were then you have to report that will be disclosed on your U5 and then Merrill will fire you immediately for not disclosing it.

like

That’s the true story behind it. First thing is ARE YOU LICENSED? and then, give the guy some advise

I would advise to turn on your resignation

Legally they can’t say that you were terminated. Background check is very black and white what they are able to ask. They will say. Did this person work form this period to this in this role. That’s about it. I would not say anything.

GE - not 100% true. They can ask for the dates of employment, but they can also ask if the person is rehire eligible.

I would simply list the dates in the background as if you just quit because you got this position. If you have a prior manager from the same company (not the one who fired you) that you are on good terms with, I’d maybe just reach out to that person directly and ask if they are willing to be a reference. If they say yes, list their contact info instead of your most recent manage or generic HR number. That way, you’re still listing somebody who can confirm your employment, but one who won’t totally trash your opportunity.

You could just say you left is all.

1. Can anyone tell me if they’ve been through the whole process without speaking to PMD? (First round Sr Manager, second Case Interview by a manager and third again by a manager) 2. What is a typical salary to expect? I was asked in screening but kept it vague (e.g can discuss later bla bla). I was hoping 75-80 (ridiculous?)

I’ve had radio silence from a small investment bank for about a week now. I’ve completed several rounds of interviews, but last Thursday the firm reposted the job I’ve been interviewing for. On Friday the headhunter said that they’re not sourcing new candidates and it’s probably just LinkedIn automatically refreshing the listing. She said they had a busy week last week but will make a final decision this week - is the delay and radio silence a bad sign or is this typical for experienced hiring?
