And what are the genuine criticisms?
I'm really asking
If you filter out the fake 5 star Glassdoor reviews that all follow the same format and ubiquitously list the cons as ‘you have to work long hours but that’s the industry’s fault’ you can see them for yourself.
To name a few:
- Bonuses never get paid
- Favoritism for UK employees
- Forced PTO and restricted PTO carry over
- No 401k match
- Joke $500 to $1k equity grants with a five year, 0% incremental vesting period for new employees
- Cult like culture that expects you to spend your free time with coworkers
- Poor managing of the firm from senior ranks that has lead to ~10% of US staff to be fired
- Consistently understaffed projects
- Always struggling to win new work
- Toxic culture of gossip and shit talking, which is partially rooted in promoting UK employees in their mid twenties to senior positions that they’re not mature enough for
- Talking to Alpha employees, you quickly realize everyone wants to leave and/or plans to do so
- High attrition rate-> Alpha used to publish its attrition rate when they first started and used it as a marketing pro, but the attrition rate (including ppl who got fired) is now much higher & rising so it’s never mentioned internally nor externally
There are definitely positives too, but given the active campaign to hide the truth on negatives it’s worthwhile calling them out so people know what they’re really getting into.
