What jobs are currently paying 85k?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

That's an interesting question in light of all the hype about AI in the past year or two. People seem to think that a lot of writing will be farmed out to AI tools, so jobs may be consolidated or just eliminated. It's hard to know how that will really play out. I'm skeptical that something requiring human judgment could be successfully handed off to AI, but upper management may still do it to save money.
Yes. Technical writing is not a expanding space
It's on the way out for sure. Writing is one of the quickest things to be automated so us writers are having to move more into the strategy space to kind of justify our paychecks I think. We'll see how long we can hold on.
Coach
I think with the rise of AI it is less strongly growing than before At least based on what my friends in the field have shared
I’m curious to hear from you OP has your job changed in the last while? I would actually say this is probably becoming increasingly important for “prompt engineering”
