I started about a year ago and am addicted. I bought a cheap sim 2 max set but I wished I got fitted after learning to how to hit a little.
The reason is in the long run I sold the sim 2 max then bought another set almost back to back and wished I just bought the fitted set first rather than spending more money than I had to.
Check out stix as well. Bunch of my friends have them and really like them
I’ve had the strata for 3 years now and got a lot of use out of them, but the driver and putter are a bit flimsy and the stand on the bag got warped after getting tossed around in the trunk multiple times. Still thought it was great value for less than $500
Good to know C1 and the other clubs were good enough to last you even after 3 years and you didn’t have to like replace the entire set?
Not sure on the Wilson set. Bought the Strata set years ago when I first started. I thought it was great, minus the Putter. Probably better to wait a bit before upgrading, but I would suggest buying a separate putter in addition to the Strata one.
Decent golfer now, over the past year, while waiting on replacements for some of my lost/damaged clubs (PW, 6 iron, 7 iron), I've temporarily put the Strata version back in my bag and still liked them a lot.
Thanks for the advice EYP1 will keep this in mind!
Started last year. Consider doing what I did - piece together some older, but real brand name clubs from fb marketplace. For $500 you can definitely get a real set together. Research “game improvement” irons and then keep your eyes peeled for good deals on used sets with standard loft and lie. No need to shell out on brand new stuff, but you’ll quickly outgrow the Strata stuff and wish you had a more solid kit
Another point - if you either don’t take to the sport, or eventually wanna upgrade like I did, you’ll be able to resell the clubs for roughly what you got. I actually profited slightly
I would suggest you look at PXG’s game improvement line of irons.
If you’re really starting out, need a full set, and aren’t sure you want to drop cash on a new hobby then go to a Play It Again Sports (maybe Edwin Watts) or look online and get a used set of Titleist AP1 710s from like 6 years ago. Those should suit you well.
Edit: someone else said it, but take a look online at game improvement irons. DO NOT BUY BLADES YOU WILL HAVE A BAD TIME.
I still have mine and love them. They’re absolute gamers.
I started last year and was really lucky to get the Callaway Edge Set (Aka the CostCo set).
https://www.costco.com/callaway-edge-10-piece-golf-club-set%2C-right-handed---graphite.product.100683849.html
Don’t pay a scalpers price for it, but if you luck out and find it for sale new at Costco or on Callaway PreOwned, I highly recommend it.
Not to mention the Kirkland wedge set… those are supposed to be fantastic and are a screaming deal at under $200 for 3 wedges
If you’re good with standard size, get at full set in a box from Costco.
