Faced this weird behaviour from Optum recently. Gave interview for Data Scientist position. HR said feedback is positive. Asked for documents. It's been month now since I have shared the documents. I have no update on the offer. Today I called HR, she called me back saying the position is on hold due to recalibration in team, She has shared interview feedbacks to other teams and will get back to me in couple of days. I am clueless now. My last working day is approaching (In a month). Any Help??

Did she change her mind based on the topic of the conversations you had? Or because the process was drawn out?
Idk if I have advice but I’d probably lean towards honesty. That relocation ended up being not the right decision for your family at this time. Not sure if that’s frowned upon though.

Just be honest - people understand family reasons
Obviously don’t blame your wife during the conversation, just say after a lot of thought you decided that full relocation was not the right move for your family. You could even say you’d love to work out an arrangement where you work remote but come visit the office for like a 3-4 day period every 2 months or so if they’re open to that
Was relo known at outset or did it develop over time?
That’s definitely a long process if they were actively engaging you and not re-orging (or some other relevant reason to delay). I’ve been in those shoes. In this instance, I would say that you’ve had something come up in your personal life during the process that would make relocation difficult at this time. You’re being forthright but wouldn’t burn any bridges.
