Love my Zenith. I have gone back and forth on an Explorer but honestly I’d miss the date.
Funny - my new requirement is no date or big date in that order (why I recommended the seaQ). The no date is because I swap enough that I am always setting dates and I love picking up the OP or my field watch (a timex) and just setting the time and going.
Congrats on the bonus. Both options that you are considering are good ones. Personally, I hold go for the zenith el primero. Has more character and style.
Ok cool loving the interest for the zenith.
Platinum Daytona
I can already tell you: Explorer
Zenith El primero
Pro
6 fig bonus? Sheesh.. Congrats. Depending on your budget, I'd drop something between $15-20k on a nice piece. Def pass on explorer. Zenith is solid. Something dressy/sport could be JLC reverso duoface. Alot of options.. Enjoy
Taxes will eat that bonus, if $100K then ~$50K post tax, and don’t think a watch is worth half your bonus (in most cases)
Zenith!!!
Not all el premiros are equal… but great watch. I’d probably do the explorer tho. Chrono gets used rarely… more work to service …. You could add the Tudor panda later if you regret. You didn’t mention a diver - maybe you already have one. But if not I’d also look at the SeaQ panorama date
Good points. I do have a diver already with the omega seamaster. Id consider getting another diver but id only considering getting a rolex diver.
Wow. 6 figure bonus! Congrats! What do you do?
Also look into Explorer 2 for something sporty or a nice dress watch like JLC Reverso.
Thanks all! I work in corporate strategy in FS.
Any other recommendations between the 6k to 10k price range?
What are you looking for in terms of circumstances you’d wear the watch? Something robust and toolish? Dressier, etc? Honestly the El Primero is probably the winner here but they’re really two very different watches with different ethoses so at the end of the day both are fantastic choices but it depends how you want to use it. The Seamaster is already kind of a GADA piece and you’ve got that base covered so the el primero may be the right move
Ya I do lean towards gada watches. I do have a rolex itch. I also like smaller watches. Honestly omega remastered is as big as ill go. Id like stay sub 42mm case.
for rolex i will onky ever be interested in Explorer 1. Daytona, and get master 2.
I also like cartier Santos Dumont and Santos de cartier. But it kind of bothers me that cartier is more fashion than exceptional watch movement.

Agree with M2. Go higher.
If you have a Rolex itch, get the Explorer. If not, then the Zenith.
