Hard to say without you telling us your negotiation tactics and jobs but 0/8 sounds low. Not even a sign on bonus or anything?
There's tons of guides to negotiating online. There's two good times to negotiate, during the first screening call and after you receive the offer. Ensure you're leveraging both while crushing the interviews.
Ensure you're familiar with the typical comp for the role and the levers that can be negotiated (eg Sign On, RSUs, base, etc)
Thanks for the advice!
Was this the initial screen or the offer stage? If it’s the initial screen, don’t anchor down…unless you are so far apart that there is no way they can march. For example, I had someone reach out for an executive role about two weeks ago. The HM and I had a informal convo this past week. And we were very far apart on comp. So we ended the convo.
But if you just starting the interview process…you need to show them through the interview process that you are someone who can be impactful within the business. The more you can prove to them that YOU are the one to solve the problem they are hiring for…the move leverage you have in the negotiations.
Thanks for the advice though

Of course it works. Depends on a) if they have budget to make it happen b) how well you did in the interviews c) your own negotiating skills
It’s primarily a) which is not great in the current market when supply is greater than demand. So you may want to confirm the range first thing in the job interview process (or lookup online). If you did great in b), then you should negotiate based on your skills, YOE and make a case for higher pay in the band. If that fails, then try to get benefits or more vacation
I’m 4/5 and the one I didn’t get, they bumped me the $10k I asked for on base in <6 months.
