Just got offered a copy lead role, except they want to keep my current title and pay, and just “see how I handle the added responsibility.” So basically, I’d still be an IC, but now I’m supposed to guide a junior, present in leadership meetings, and review copy for two other teams… all without a raise or formal title change. They’re calling it a “trial run,” but it feels suspiciously like free labor. Has anyone taken one of these “stealth promotions” and actually seen it turn into something real?
