Super pretty layout esp for a writer ✏️

Thank you so much! I’m so, so glad to hear you think so. I mentioned in another reply but I had a very unique and specific aesthetic vision for the site as a whole so I’m REALLY happy to hear it seems to be shining through and being received well. Thank you again so much!

A fellow SCADDY! Will also echo AD1.

I’m skimming through your book and here are some initial thoughts. May provide more feedback later.

I really like your thumbnails. You being a copywriter and having put those together is impressive. Good work!

The biggest pain of your site is your font size. It looks fine on my phone but is terrible on my 1920x1080 monitor. I’m seeing it’s 12 px, which is the size a lot of sites use for their copyright info in the footer. Bump it up to 16-18 px and see if you can make it responsive or pay a developer to help.

One final piece of advice is possibly make the Amex and Crayola work your top two pieces.

I wanted to watch the Verizon social campaign but am short on time. That campaign has a 9 min video, two 10 min videos, and two posts I have to view on Instagram. An ACD or CD that has one min or two will click this campaign since it’s first, and may immediately bounce to another piece.

EDIT: This goes with what I said about the responsive text, you may want to consider the way your work looks on all devices.

On mobile, the Postmates campaign comes after the Verizon one. It’s a different experience, especially if you’re wanting to highlight your 2nd and 4th piece before your 7th and 9th.

Just wanted to come back to this and say that I WAS aware of the display order issue on mobile, but was having a super hard time figuring out how to fix it in Squarespace. Turns out, it was way simpler than I was making it and I’ve successfully fixed the ordering issue. Thank you again for the tip about putting Amex and Crayola first!

Appreciate the in-depth feedback! It was super helpful!

Love the fake quotes. You might want to slim them down, but there are some great ones in there.

No, no— please keep all of the quotes. On first glance I thought, “this is WAY too many”— then I got to the junk mail and the 0G ones and thought, “this guy is really funny.” If trimming down any, maybe the grandma one/ simple ones. Also liked the quote from yourself, lol.

Site looks really cool, like the colors and the thumbnails.

Love it 😅

So here's the deal: I've been in the industry for 8 years now—and I still feel my best work is my spec work. Is there a point at which it's simply no longer appropriate to show spec work in a book?

I see this question about how to display side projects often, so putting this out there for anyone who might find it useful:

There’s no such thing as side projects, in my eyes. Every project is an opportunity to display your creativity, and the few you’re most proud of make it to your book. Generally, the consensus these days is that we want our advertising to not look/feel like advertising. So, why should you be concerned to separate what was and wasn’t “advertising?”
