Just started a new Data Analyst position in which I have constant meetings with senior leadership and executives. I have a bad habit of giving too much background info and not getting straight to the point. I just feel like every little detail is important (even though that’s not always the case). Any tips for breaking this habit or just become more efficient with advising?

Before each meeting think about the story you want to tell. Data work is basically just telling stories with information to make it trust worthy. So when you have those meetings take a minute and just go through what they need to understand. And document the details somewhere, so that at the end you send through the detailed information for further reference.

So example: “for further details on the project please see the page here [link]. I will be updating it regularly and if you have further questions please let me know”

I would also link the detailed page to your he meeting invites and have a summary at the top.

I have found most leaders don’t actually care about the details they want to know work is being done and that they could find it if necessary

Thank you for your advise! I’ll definitely apply this approach.

Start with why. What is the problem, framed in terms of leadership’s objectives?

Something I’ve found most useful is finding someone in leadership I’m comfortable with and asking them if they’d go over my presentation with me. Most of those issues get resolved.

Also, make greater use of backup slides.

So I have been offered a job at multinational company as a Data Engg. It was a part of the hiring event, and literally got selected with a VERY VERY SIMPLE technical assessment, and a 45 minute interview.

The pay should within my expectations, but I am unsure about the company and the team.

Just that the process was way too easy so quick. I do not even know the hiring manager.

Has someone been a part of this before? Any suggestions if I should go for it? What should I ask?

I am a senior commercial banker looking at two roles in consulting, both with Accenture. One is Banking Consultant and the other is Banking Strategy Manager. Can anyone help me understand the difference in the two roles in terms of seniority within the org? Both job descriptions are laden with all the buzz words you’d expect but don’t really separate one role from the other. I wouldn’t leave my current position for less than 175k. If you can, please weigh in on that expectation. Thanks all. Accenture

Considering an exit to a startup that just completed a solid series B. They’re willing to provide competitive comp package and surprised how large the base is for a startup. Valid concern or am I overthinking it?

Hey HR Folks!
I work in recruiting at a tech start-up in SF. We typically don't share our latest valuation with candidates unless it's a very senior position, but I am seeing more mid-level candidates ask for it lately. My question to you all...
1. Do you share your valuation with candidates?
2. If yes or no, please share why.
Thank you!

People - can we please stop using the current pandemic as a means for policitical gain? The situation is much more complex than how it is represented. And I find it insensitive to the families of those who are affected.

I don't mean to hinder shared perspective. There is much value in talking about it with others if we treat each other with respect.

At a higher-level, I question why society is like this. I think there's value to reading the attached. It is dense. Please read slowly.

I’m a bit newer to data science and recently read through a few academic case studies on ethical fairness in ML/modeling. Would love to start a thread to hear some more from data scientist/ML perspective.
The most harmful example I came across was bias in ML for the criminal justice system.

Is anyone currently in a data science/ML position willing to share their thoughts/maybe an example based on experience? Thinking about how to actively prevent this kind of bias in future models

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? Any guidance here is greatly appreciated.
