Just wondering if my current salary is competitive. I’m a 2nd year associate in a plaintiff firm in South Florida making $70k. No billable hours, but there are “networking expectations.” I’ve brought in 6 cases on my own, 5 are still in pre-suit and I’m supposed to get an origination fee when they settle. Just got a $10k raise in November with a bonus.

I make the same as you with the same level of experience. Right now if I was in Florida I'd be sh*tting myself about whether I'll have a job. Don't try to push it. A lot of PI firms are about to suffer and the defense bar just cost themselves a lot of jobs with this latest "win"

Yeah I’m just now getting out of the weeds of drafting & filing about 20+ complaints bc of that tort reform. 🫠 My partners are not acting stressed about the changes…and I’m the only associate so I’m hoping that based on that and the cases I’ve recently brought in will be a bit of job security

Working 40? Well that won't get you very far but I'd still say you're a bit low. Now may not be the best time to push too hard but I don't know your specific situation.

like

I thought you worked 40hrs/week and that's not going to get you raises or promotions. I'm in SoFL and I can verify you can do much better than where you are but to get there you have to learn as much as possible and put the work in. I'm glad to hear you aren't pulling on the door handle at 5pm.

Do you get a bonus when you resolve a case?

Consider renegotiating your contract soon. A base salary, plus a percentage (3 - 10%) of the fee on every case you resolve, and a higher percentage (33 1/3% - 50%) on self-generated cases is pretty standard nowadays.

How many hours do you work weekly? Do you know your origination fee amount?

And the ID firms need extra help to work on all the cases that were filed last month...

Hello! Looking at an opportunity with established startup in UK that's just been acquired by a large co. I'm US based and my salary is around $250k (NYC) -I've been asked my expectation without the startup giving me a range to work from (though I've asked). I'm not sure how to reply to them because I have a feeling that my requirement may be out of their range and while I don't want to undercut my value, I also don't want to be cut out of the process because it's an interesting co. Any advice?

Any insight is appreciated, thank you!!
