Bain & Company Is there a cool down at Bain even if you don’t make it past the resume screen? Applied a couple months ago on a whim (and a referral from a friend) having no experience with anything business/consulting related as a lateral (only had experience in research prior). Since then have had 2 months at a t2 firm plus some biz dev for a startup. I’m aiming to reapply at 6 months. For context graduated from a t10 school and thought I wanted to go to med school for a little bit lol. Bain & Company

I’ve only been involved in hiring for a little over a month now and it absolutely is a whole new perspective! Learning a ton through the process and really excited to carry on with it. Been a lot of fun honestly to have conversations with candidates and see if we met each others needs!

i love this!
It's as much of an art as a science, I think. I'm also pretty new to it, and I feel like I've learned something new every single day. It's interesting how someone can seem like the perfect fit on paper, but it's a whole different dynamic when it comes to personalities and matching the team's vibe.

I've been learning a ton too
I agree with you, finding the right person can be challenging but is definitely rewarding once it happens. I think the biggest piece of the puzzle is getting someone who fits in well with the team already in place, but who also can help to take the team to the next level. When you find that perfect combination, you've struck gold.

super rewarding
You raise a pretty good point, so much of the hiring process is about bring someone into a team. And the chemistry, while it sounds like a vague concept to some ears, really does matter a lot. Someone with skills to spare who wouldn't, as you say, thrive in the culture, would just be a bad choice.
