I think it’s fair timelines vary for promotions. Experience is only one factor as ranks require behaviours, many of which are built through experience, but not the sole reason for demonstrating

I don’t think it varies, what i have been told is that it’s the same but it really depends on your performance manager and your partner. I for one have been put on a fast track and i was hired two years ago. I got promoted to Senior Consultant after one year and now i am looking at becoming a Manager next year so let’s see. Technically i spent a year as consultant and intend to spend only 2 years as senior before moving to manager next fiscal.

Hi friends! I’m looking for resources to help me be successful in a “Functional Lead” role.

The role is in FinTech
I’m responsible for strategy, comms and key partnerships for a bank product. It reports through Customer Experience but touches product, Ops. marketing. It’s basically a Project Manager role but more nuanced.

Anyone out there in a role like this? Any books. videos or even best practices to share?

Really rethinking this whole accounting gig. I used to be so passionate about it and wanted become CFO one day, but I’m slowly starting to dread the work and my life. Everything around me has taken a toll. I’ve tried both big 4 and industry and I really don’t like either side, but I don’t know where to pivot to. Part of me wants to drop everything, travel and start my own business but idk if that’s the best thing to do amid recession fears… could really use some advice :/

I am currently a civil engineer thinking of switching to software engineering. I got my masters in water resource engineering where I was coding a decent amount for assignments and it has really stuck with me. Unfortunately, in my current role and field (civil), I don’t really get to do much coding. Does anyone have a similar experience of jumping ship to do software engineering? What would be the best way to go about it (coding bootcamp, another degree, something else)?

So glad I found this group! I’ve hopped through 3 jobs since graduating 2 years ago. They all start out great- I ace interviews, flourish creatively, and get super positive feedback from managers. Few months in, my interest begins to wane. Productivity dies off, and engagement in my work falls of the cliff. My work suffers and I end up quitting because I hate myself for not showing up when people are counting on me. Any advice?

So I recently found out that my current company is underpaying me. And by that I mean that literally any other company is willing to pay me 15-20k more than what I make now. In my current role they've asked me to take on extra responsibilities with no financial compensation (scrum master type stuff) while still doing my engineering stuff. I don't necessarily mind it, but I'm starting to feel like I'm being taken advantage of. Is it reasonable for me to ask for a raise? Or do I go somewhere else?

I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?

I just finished my Masters at UT Arlington. I’ve been working for this firm for almost 3 years in uptown Dallas. I technically don’t have a title, obviously because I’m not license. I’m 15 weeks this week and we just told some friends of ours the exciting news… except one of them texted me after the fact to say “I did notice that you were getting ‘bigger,’ but I just chalked it up to the stress of your new manager role. Glad to hear it’s bc you’re pregnant!”
Um, maybe I’m being sensitive, but that seems a little rude? At this point, my weight gain does look just like bloating and not a bump, but who says that out loud?

Questions:
1. what do you do if your job or your interviewers ask you to take on responsibilities outside of what you want to develop your career in?

2. How do you handle double standard at work?
Example: Another designer in the same position refused to do certain work and you have to pick it up, and your supervisor plays favoritism, leaves you high and dry, and brushes you off for not being able to figure it out yourself?
