Laid off and have been searching for months. Got an offer from lawyer I’d done contract work and then also recently got offer from consulting firm doing legal adjacent work but not really lawyering. Solo offer is considerably lower than prior role and consulting role but has diff pros (no billable, % profit if business brought which may be challenging in current market). Not really sold on the idea of becoming a partner ever or going back into a large firm role but ..see cont

Depends on what type of consulting. But in general, outside of big law, firms are much less concerned about you having the perfect background and I doubt you’d be excluded from private practice just because you worked at a legal consulting firm for a bit.

... scared of job prospects if consulting role is the pits and I want to crawl back into lawyering. What would you do?

How many years have you been practicing?

A little over 3 years

I’m hoping someone might have some ideas about this- I’m currently five years out of law school with a clerkship, a tax LLM, 3 years of experience doing transactional tax work and a few months of EC/VC experience (which I recently switched to from tax). I like the EC/VC work, but I don’t know how long I want to stay in biglaw. Can anyone weigh in on how employers for in-house roles might look at my experience in a year or two?

I went through the entire recruitment process and got selected for IBM ISL. Now I am being told by the HR that they are unable to release offer as there is a hiring freeze.

Can any one please tell me if its correct or just an excuse not to give me offer. If its true, when will this freeze be removed?

Hello Fishes,

Are the below offers on par with the market standards as a data engineer?
YOE : 4
C CTC : 9
Offers:
1. Synopsys(17L + 2L VP + 3L JB + RSU - 10K USD)
2. MAQ : 15L
3. Optum : 15L
After browsing this portal, got to know Synopsys is paying good for this role. Any suggestions?

Can I ask more as I'm looking for longer association(if yes, what should be the approach considering that the other offers are less than this) and any idea about the hike percentage in Synopsys?

How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?
